KNCO reported this yesterday (www.knco.com -- also on the Monday evening KNCO news)..Bill Holman told me about Country Rose, but I haven't had time to check it out. I know the building has been for sale for years and I think the business was also listed awhile ago, but for more money.
The Famous Marching Presidents are having a bash for past and current marchers at Jesse Connor's wine cellar/bar/cave, which is an AMAZING room! I was there for a wine tasting with Rod Byers and it's just a fabulous place. He rents individual rooms for high end wine storage, too. The looooong table in that room probably seats 40 plus.
I hear there may be some "interesting" discussion at the Board of Supervisors today. No, not the fire plan. I hear some local organizations asking for money are going to be in for a bit of a surprise. Stay tuned.
Am I the only one who feels we've been in Election Season for, oh, about a gazillion years? Enough, already. Not sure if I can make it to November...
Looks like Stonehouse has answered your question.

Dixie, right now most business owners have two burning questions on their mind - how do my meet my next payroll? and how can I get my business out of Nevada County, or better yet, out of California? As I posted on Ruminations, our state has achieved absolute first place ranking in country for the least desirable state in which to operate a business. And listening to the Sacramento goings on, the problem promises to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I offered my services with a tractor and backhoe last year at $40, which is practically giving it away (I would not bother for less), and got only several takers up here on the ridge.

I know.. it's terrible!! Jon Carroll had a great column in the Chron today about how many people are on the Edge..and how people on the Edge are moving to the Brink. It's really scary and I have a sick feeling we may be in for at least another year of this...

What's next? Restaurants come and go, but with the end of tourist season, I think more will fold as the year comes to a close.
I will also venture a guess businesses catering to home improvement such as flooring, window treatment, cabinets and plumbed fixtures will be next.
Unknown are the number of general and sub contractors folding up.
