I feel like my vote in this election is the most important one I have made in my adult life -- especially Prop 8 and the presidential election. So, I went to the Rood Center Thursday to vote, not trusting the mail. I had to wait in line, which I think is a good thing. There were 3 people ahead of me voting. On the way there I caught Paul Emery's call-in show on voting. Just about every caller said they suspect some "dirty tricks" to play out with voting and vote counting. I must say I agree and what a sad state of affairs to not be able to trust the election process in America!
Our Rotary meeting Thursday featured a new program we have launched in Uganda -- herds of dairy and meat goats and a video made by local 4-H kids on how to care for the goats, etc. This was made possible by a grant from Rotary International of almost $300,000. The Batwa pygmies can drink the goat milk (most are lactose intolerant but can tolerate goat milk) make cheese and eventually eat the goats when the herds are bigger. The fact that Nevada City's Scott and Carol Kellermann have made such a difference in the world -- and an even bigger difference partnering with Rotary -- gives me a lot of hope. When people get together with common goals we an change the world.
