Study Says Named Cows Give More Milk

 

(Undated)  --  A cow who is given a name produces more milk than one that remains nameless.  That's the finding from scientists at 

Newcastle

University

 in 

England

 who found that giving a cow a name and treating her as an "individual" led to increased annual milk production.  Doctor Catherine Douglas says the study shows that just as people respond better to the personal touch, cows also feel happier and more relaxed if they are given more one-on-one attention.  

Douglas

 added that putting more importance on knowing the individual animals and calling them by name can significantly increase milk production at no extra cost to the farmer.

I think animal shelters have also been able to adopt out animals that are named -- makes sense, doesn't it?
