Sorry about the lag in blogging but this extreme heat has made my computer very cranky! (Truth be told, I've been a little cranky when I'm not in some cool water myself.) Did some major kayaking at Scotts Flat today...surprised not too many boats out. Too hot? The water is perfect! Saw Greg Martin doing his daily swim.

Went to a Whittier party tonight. About 25 transplanted Whittier folks, representing a few different high schools. Theme was Mexican, so I made my shrimp/mango tostadas, but put it in those scoop-type chips to be finger-friendly!

WorldFest had some great acts!! As for new (to me) I liked AcaBella and Cuban Cowboys. Both groups sold out of CD's so I must be in the majority. Too bad the weather didn't cooperate a bit, but a festival in July is bound to be toasty. Hooked up with a reporter, photographer and editorial cartoonist from our old days at the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. (The 80s -- were you there?) The reporter, Robert, has a branding company out of Laguna Beach; the photog has an international freelance business and the editorial cartoonist is still at it -- for the Sac Bee -- Rex Babin. We also worked with a guy named Jeff Parker, who went on to become a successful novelist under the name T. Jefferson Parker. Good times!

St. Piren's Day is Thursday -- c'mon down for the pastie toss between mayors of GV and NC; also Kiwanis vs. Rotary. Bring your dog...the pasties are filled with dog food and they clean the streets when it's over. Downtown Grass Valley.

If you're a Grateful Dead fan, check out DeadAhead, a cover band playing Friday night at The Miners Foundry. I hear they rock!
What's happening Thursday? What time?
